Operator – Building Department

Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, including customers, delivery drivers, and transfer drivers. The Operator ensures accurate and efficient loading of products using a forklift or front-end loader, maintains a safe and tidy yard, prevents stock losses, and contributes to customer satisfaction, repeat business, and overall store performance.
Key Responsibilities

Load customer vehicles, delivery trucks, and transfer trucks efficiently and accurately

Ensure stock is correctly stacked, counted, and handled

Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the yard and work areas

Assist customers with product handling and provide friendly, knowledgeable service

Operate forklifts and front-end loaders safely and competently
-
Maintain operational vehicles in good working condition

Adhere to all operational procedures for operators

Report issues and maintain accurate records

Participate in ongoing stock counts

Perform additional work-related tasks as assigned by management
Minimum Requirements
-
Matric or three completed Intercept courses totaling 120 credits

Candidates without matric may be considered if they hold a valid operator licence and have at least one year of operator experience

Minimum of one year’s experience as an operator

Valid operator licence
-
Completion of service excellence or induction training

Strong customer service skills

Ability to count stock accurately

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Effective verbal communication skills

Ability to work under pressure
-
Knowledge of building material products
-
Ability to operate machinery safely and responsibly
