ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

SALARY: R582 444 per annum (Level 10), plus benefits

CENTRE: Administration Centre

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4).

  • An appropriate recognised National Diploma or Degree in Psychology or BA Social Work (majoring in Psychology) or a relevant qualification at NQF Level 6/7.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in an education, teaching and learning environment or a related field, of which at least three (3) years must be at a supervisory level.

  • Computer literacy.

  • Valid driver’s licence.

  • Knowledge of the Skills Development Act, Public Service Regulations, Public Service Act and Labour Relations Act.

  • Knowledge of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and related legislation.

  • Knowledge of the Public TVET sector and its regulatory and legislative framework.

  • Knowledge of ethical, regulatory and legislative frameworks.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education sector and the Education Act.

DUTIES:

  • Oversee the administration of the Student Support Services (SSS) unit.

  • Develop the annual SSS operational plan, allocate tasks to staff, and monitor progress against approved targets.

  • Develop, review and implement SSS policies, processes, procedures and job profiles.

  • Ensure the compilation and maintenance of learner progress reports, statements, results and management of student enquiries.

  • Track the behaviour and academic performance of students participating in internal and external counselling programmes.

  • Manage student counselling services across the college, including implementation of counselling and guidance policies, procedures and best practices.

  • Coordinate and monitor the provision of counselling services across the college.

  • Design and implement life-skills programmes as proactive counselling interventions.

  • Ensure counselling services comply with required standards and ethical codes of conduct.

  • Ensure individual counselling and psycho-social intervention programmes are provided where necessary.
