CHIEF WORKS MANAGER: MECHANICAL

Salary: R397 116 per annum

Requirements

  • A minimum three-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6) in the T/N/S streams or a related field; or

  • N3 qualification plus a passed trade test in a relevant mechanical environment, with 3–5 years of related technical experience.

  • Valid driver’s licence.

Duties

  • Identify requirements for new work and repairs through investigations of customer complaints and service needs.

  • Prepare specifications for unplanned maintenance and minor new works.

  • Develop bills of quantities and cost proposals.

  • Inspect completed work on new projects and existing structures.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and quality standards.

  • Analyse and compile project documentation for new and existing structures.

  • Develop and interpret plans and sketches.

  • Compile quotation documents, specifications, bills of quantities, and bid documents.

  • Adjudicate quotations and bids and provide recommendations.

  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders on technical matters.

  • Advise and guide contractors on compliance with legislation and procedures.

  • Verify invoices and certify progress payments.

  • Process variation orders and recommend extensions of time where applicable.

  • Brief contractors and consultants and certify professional fee claims.

  • Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of legislation, policies, and procedures.

  • Ensure quality control and effective workflow of Works Inspectors and report on assigned work.

  • Monitor the utilisation of equipment, stores, and expenditure.

  • Administer the departmental performance management and development system.
