Purpose of the Post
The purpose of this position is to manage and create an enabling environment and policy framework, as well as drive strategic reforms that promote effective online content classification.

Salary
R1,266,714 per annum (Level 13).
The all-inclusive remuneration package consists of a basic salary, the State’s contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund, medical aid, and a flexible portion in accordance with applicable rules.

Requirements

  • An appropriate NQF Level 7 qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) in Media Studies, Journalism, Communication, or a related field.

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at a middle to senior managerial level within Media Studies, Journalism, Communication, or a related environment.

Duties
The successful candidate will:

  • Develop policy frameworks, plans, and strategies to shape the regulatory landscape and set standards for online and social media content classification.

  • Drive processes to define criteria, codes, and standards for classifying online and social media content in a co-regulatory environment.

  • Facilitate collaboration with designated regulatory bodies and social media companies to develop industry-wide standards and best practices for content classification and moderation.

  • Collaborate with partners, the international community, and industry stakeholders to address online content classification issues and promote responsible social media use.

  • Manage the implementation of policies, including coordination with policy owners, implementers, beneficiaries, and accountability mechanisms.
